Saint Paul Grill

I’ve lived in downtown Saint Paul for a year and a half now, and I finally decided to try the Saint Paul Grill, located inside the historic Saint Paul Hotel.  My sister and I went for Sunday brunch, and were very excited to try it out.

The ambiance of the restaurant is very classic – dark wood, nice china, and a HUGE bar (planning to check that out some night soon!)  Definitely glad I dressed up a bit for the brunch.  We were seated at a nice booth, looking out a large window with a view of the Landmark Center.

The brunch menu is giant.  It was really difficult for me to come to a decision.  My sister and I battled the usual brunch dilemma over sweet vs. savory (I almost always go savory).  However, to our surprise, each brunch entree is served with a colossal caramel roll (pictured above).  It was super sweet, perfectly gooey and sticky, and a great addition to my morning coffee.  With this appetizer, we were both sold on the savory.

I ordered the Corned Beef Hash Brown – which is essentially a giant hash brown filled with pulled corned beef, sauteed onions and peppers, topped with three eggs served any style.  I got my eggs sunny side up.  When it came, I was pleasantly stunned by the sheer size of the dish, knowing immediately I’d need a to go box.

On to the important part: the taste.  The dish was very tasty.  The hero was absolutely the corned beef.  Large pulled pieces of the beef were juicy and succulent, adding the majority of the flavor.  The onions and peppers were a nice touch as well.  Although I added a pretty hefty amount of salt and pepper, I still felt like the potatoes were lacking any seasoning.  That would be my only complaint.  The hash browns were cooked perfectly, with a nice crispy outside, making it fun to break through and reveal all the goodness inside.

All in all, I would definitely recommend the Saint Paul Grill for brunch.  If you are looking for a nice, classy brunch atmosphere, and willing to spend a bit of money, it is definitely a good pick.  The food was great, huge portions, and the service was wonderful.  I very much appreciated the carefully packing of my leftovers, which heated up very well! (Yes, I’ve already dug into the leftovers).

If you are looking for a brunch spot in Saint Paul, check out the menu and give it a try!  Comment below if you’ve been before, and what dishes you recommend!
